Please note: All cover is subject to the specific maximum limits and single article limits outlined in your Table of Benefits. All cover is subject to the policy terms, conditions, exclusions, and the mandatory policy excess. Full details can be found in the policy wording.

Q: What specific electronic devices, accessories, and incident types are covered under the mandatory Gadget Cover and the gadget add-on?

A: Our optional Gadget Cover add-on is underwritten by Collinson Insurance (a trading name of Astrenska Insurance Limited) and administered by Bastion Insurance Services Ltd. It provides comprehensive global protection for your personal electronics while traveling.

Eligible Devices (What is a "Gadget"?)

We provide protection for the following personal electronic items:

  • Mobile Phones and iPhones

  • Tablets and iPads

  • Digital Cameras and Camera Lenses

  • Video Cameras and GoPros

  • Laptops and E-Readers

  • Smartwatches

  • Bluetooth Headsets, Headphones, Earphones, and Earbuds

  • Satellite Navigation Devices (SatNavs) and PDAs

  • Games Consoles and MP3 Players

  • Note: Wearables such as smart eyewear, smart rings, and smart clothing are strictly excluded from this gadget definition and no cover is provided for drones.

Strict Device Eligibility & Age Limits

To ensure your electronic items are fully covered, every device must meet the following baseline criteria at the time of purchase:

  • Good Condition: Every item must be in full working order and completely free from any pre-existing physical damage before your trip begins.

  • Original Parts Only: The device cannot have been previously repaired using non-manufacturer parts.

  • Ownership: They must be legally owned or leased by you, and you will be required to provide clear evidence of ownership in the event of a claim.

  • Age Restrictions: General gadgets must not be more than 6 years old from the original date of purchase as new. However, laptops are subject to a much shorter limit and must not be more than 18 months old.

  • Single Article Limit Warning: Any individual device whose total value exceeds the strict Single Article Limit for your chosen cover level will completely fail to qualify and will not be covered.

Accepted Purchase Methods

Your device must have been acquired through one of the following recognized paths:

  1. Purchased brand new from a UK or overseas VAT-registered (or locally equivalent) company.

  2. Purchased used or refurbished from a UK retailer, provided it came with at least a 12-month commercial warranty (you will be required to provide physical evidence of this warranty during a claim).

  3. Received as a gift for which you can provide an official, valid UK Gift receipt.

Covered Scenarios (What Can You Claim For?)

If an incident occurs while you are traveling, the policy protects you across these core categories:

  • Accidental or Malicious Damage: If your device is broken due to an unexpected accident or vandalism, we will arrange for a professional repair. If it cannot be economically repaired, it will be replaced.

  • Theft: Covers the replacement of your device if it is stolen. If only specific parts are stolen, the policy will replace those exact parts.

  • Accidental Loss: Covers you if you accidentally or unintentionally lose your device mid-trip.

  • Liquid Damage: Covers professional repairs or a replacement if your device is damaged by accidental contact with liquids. (Important exception: Liquid damage is strictly excluded if it is caused by taking the device into the water, onto a private boat, or during water sports. However, liquid damage occurring on a commercial cruise ship or a public ferry remains fully covered).

  • Electrical Breakdown: Covers the cost of repairs if your device experiences a sudden mechanical or electrical breakdown outside of its manufacturer's warranty period. (Note: Breakdown coverage is not available for laptops).

  • Unauthorised Call and Data Use: If your mobile phone is lost or stolen and used fraudulently by thieves, we will reimburse the cost of unauthorized calls, messages, downloads, and data usage up to a maximum value of £2,500. This covers fraudulent charges incurred from the moment the phone was lost or stolen up to a strict maximum of 24 hours after you discover the incident.

Accessories Protection

If your primary gadget claim is officially approved, the policy will automatically replace any accessories that were accidentally lost, damaged, or stolen at the exact same time as your device, up to a maximum combined value of £150. This includes items such as chargers, carrying cases, headphones, hands-free mounting kits, and USB cables used in conjunction with your device.
